Have a 1995 C36 which in the mornings or after a long sit will start up imediately and idle at 500rpm's but if you prod the throttle there is no response from the engine (ie the rpm's do not go up or down). However after you turn off the car and restart her everything is fine. On occasion the ASR light stays on but with the second restart it goes off. The technicians thought it was an igition coil b/c before this symptom the car would run as if almost misfiring when revved high (however it this was not periodic, sometimes it would run almost misfiring and sometimes it would not) but it was not the ignition coil. I am at wits end with this car! Does anyone know of what this is attributed to?

This sounds like engine management system issues. Get it on a computer and see if you can pull some codes.

I've had several experiences with the same problem. Every time so far I've had to replace the electronic accelerrator unit to fix it. Have you had the diagnostic trouble codes scaned?
