SLK32 AMG harmonic balancer wobble
 

While diagnosing a supercharger clutch noise, I noticed that the harmonic balancer on my 2003 SLK32 AMG was wobbling quite a bit. Should I just go ahead and replace this? Is it an expensive part?

There used to be a sticky at the top of this page regarding the recall campaign on the harmonic balancer. It involved the V-6 motors (can't remember what M-configuration it is, but my former 99 ML320 was part of the same recall)...I believe yours is a candidate.

Check with your local dealer. When it finally self destructs, some have had the balancer chew up the very expensive oil sump as well!!!

I read through that stickied forum and I believe the recall campaign was only applicable until 2000 or 2001.

Can anyone confirm that this is not part of a recall campaign?

I would'nt be so sure the campaign ended as early as 2001.
