Of course the best bet is having a pre-purchase inspection to see what problems exist.

ANY 16-17 year old car will have problems. Mileage is the biggest factor.

Can't remember when 4Matic arrived, but that fails regularly.

Many Mercedes this age are ready for transmission rebuild.

HVAC systems often require work at this age, too.

I went and drove it. Good news, purrs like a kitten, bad news, 4matic issue(s)

I put the car in reverse and it felt like the e-brake was still on. Looked under the car and the boots at the front diff were pretty much gone. It shifted well.

What kind of time and money to correct? Its got a good body and paint and interior was pretty good as well.

Only 133K on the clock, sure the motor has a lot of life left.

*edit* Did some searching on 4matic, sounds like a PITA, passing on this one.

Good choice. You don't want to deal w/ that generation 4matic system. Major PITA or major $$$ or both. Usually both.
