Driverside power seat not working
Hi to all, I have been a reader for a long time now, everone here is so informative. I have looked through past treads and could not find what problem I have. I just sold my 1998 e 320, because I was having many problems with it, actually to many to list! picked up a beatuful 1994 e320
runs like a top with 105,000 on the odo. when I purchased the car, the guy told me the driver side seat w/ memory did not work and the srs light is on, he told me that it just happened while he was cleaning the car to sell. it wouldn't bother so much but the guy was like 6'6" and i'm 5'11" can ya see the problem. looking for any help before i take it to the dealer. all fuses have been checked, can't pull the seat out with seat so far back i can't get to the rear bolts. i could be wrong but it sounds like a bad ground, if so where? replaced the switch that wasn't the problem either. thanks in advance for any help! |
Do you hear any motor when you push the button? Are all functions of the seat dead or just front-back? Be sure to search on "W124 SEAT"
|
will it work with the door open?
|
There is an electrical plug under the seat for the motors. I recall that with the seat out and the ignition switch on, the SRS light would illuminate.
Have you tried a 10 mm ratchet wrench for the rear bolts? I'll bet the seat is right over the rear mount bolts. |
There is no sound of motors trying to move for any adjustment. It doesn't even work with the door open. if the heating duct wasn't there i might be able to get to the rear seat bolts a little easier. With out breaking them, how do the plastic covers come off, that cover the ends of the seat rails. when I come home from work i'll try again to get the seat out. with the seat soooo far back and it being so tight to the floor it's hard to belive that he could of disconnected somthing under the seat in it's current position, but then again anything is possible! thanks again for the fast reply!

If I recall correctly, the plastic covers on the front of the floor rails will come off after you remove the front mount bolts. Be careful about forcing them. I broke one the first time I tried taking them off.
Also, if you do get the seat completely out of the car, be careful on reinstallation that the black sliding rail fits into both the front and back of the sleeve mechanisms. It is possible to get the seat back in and have the sliding rail only go through the back sleeve mechanism--not the front too. You will damage the plastic coating on the rail when you move the seat back and forth with the motor (ask me how I know). |

Worst case scenario: you can probably pull the seat cover off the bottom and access the wires that way. You could then check to see if you have power to the seat. Do any functions work, seat back, headrest? If nothing works then you don't have power to the seat. Did you check to see if you had power at the switch? |
I checked the driver switch, it has 6 wires going into it. one is ground, the other is back light power the other 4 wires seem to put out different amounts of ground, kind of like a multiplex output. for about 10yrs I installed car radios, alarms, remote starts, so I have seen multiplex before but without a pin out I'm shooting in the dark would anyone have the pinouts? the color wires are brown, grey w/ blue tracer, white w/ red tracer, white w/ green tracer, white w/ brown tracer, and white w/ blue tracer.
