What services are performed during the 90K service on a 1992 300SL?

The 90K mile service is about the same as the 30K mile service and the 60K mile service. The intervals of 30K miles are the major service intervals.

You will probably find a reference in one of the owner’s manuals about this, but in short, all fluids (engine, radiator, power steering, power brakes, tyranny, rear end); all the normal wear and tear maintenance items, filters, lube everything that moves, replace gaskets for tyranny pan, valve covers; replace thermostat, spark plugs, rotors, distributor(s) and so on. I’m not sure if tire rotate and re-balance is part of this service. Check for worn hoses and any leaks. Maybe check the o2 sensor and replace if necessary. Check & lube all linkages.

Your dealer can provide you with a check list of the MB service guideline for this service.

I am doing the 60K mile service on my 124 and have acquired about $600 in parts and fluids in preparation. BTW, I bought most of the parts from the FastLane site here and got a nice discount compared to what a dealer charges. The person I’m taking the car to was okay with my buying the parts elsewhere and having him do the install. I gave him veto power if there is a part from a manufacturer that he doesn’t like. Since FastLane provides only premium parts, I doubt this will happen.

Thanks for all of your replies. It appears that I have had almost everything done within the last year in connection with repairs (replacing seals in rear end, replacing a/c evaporator core, etc) except for the transmission service and changing the power steering fluid.

I have my '97 E320 in for the 90K Maintenance - the indie shop told me that spark plugs are not art of the scheduled maintenance. He said the plugs are supposed to last 100K but he's seen them go bad at @ 90K.

Is this for real? On my '86 300E plugs and wires were part of every 30K maintenance. any thoughts?

I think your mechanic is wrong. The 100K interval is for M112 and M113 engines, which use platinum plugs.

1997 E320's have inline 6 M104 engines, which use regular copper core plugs. The replacement interval is every 30K miles.

While many MB owners change the power steering fluid periodically, it never appears on any actual maintenance schedule, either by mileage or time.

The radiator fluid and brake fluid changes don't appear on the 7.5k, 15k, or 30k service, either. They are not maintenance items that are changed at mileage intervals.

Rather, they are changed in time intervals:

--- Brake fluid is to be replaced every 2 years.
--- Radiator fluid is to be replaced every 3 years.
