Anyone have clear tail lights?
I've been thinking about updating the tail lights on the 88 300 SEL. The current tail lights are faded and I've never been a big fan of the orange. I've already converted to clear corners in the front so I figured clears in the back would fit. My only problem is that I can't visualize it. I haven't found any pictures online of a car with the clears installed. Would any of you with clears installed on your tail lights mind sharing a photo? That would help me a bunch. Thanks.

If by clear you understand "Altezza lights", you'll waste your money - the combo classic-looking car + Altezza lights it's the crappiest design imaginable :D

yeah, part of me has a fear that it will look too out of place for me, that's why I was hoping to see it on someone else's car. I don't care so much for the original lights, and I would like to replace them with something else, but I would like to keep it low key. The less shiny the better. I would love just plain clear and red with no chrome. I think that would look better than the current lights. I just don't have a good "mind's eye" for this sort of thing- thus the request for a photo if anyone's willing.

I have ordered some red and clear taillights for a couple of reasons - my OEM ones leak, are dull and grungy and the replacement gaskets are $50(!) each at the dealers, so for another 40 or so, I get new complete lights that will match my Euro headlights. I've seen totally clear and 'smoked' taillights which I think are too zoomy and "rice" for my liking. The red and clear seem to be pretty low key and I lose the amber only.
A problem I have not solved yet is the small bulbs in the side lights, parking lights, are only available in white, not amber, but then who uses parking lights in this country? That's my story and I'm going to stick to it! |
Interesting. I had just assumed that I could get amber lights to go with my clear rears. I agree, it wouldn't pose too much of a problem for me as I almost never use my parking lights. When you install them do me a favor and post a picture. Good luck, I've read the installation isn't too hard in back.

I've had my 'normal' tails out a couple of times to fix leaks - 8mm socket, that's all.
