What sort of transmissionfluid is compatable with an '88 300e automatic, if any? the manual specifies MB, yet, one would expect MB to specify MB air to be put into the tires, if you know what I mean. Similarly, what of transmission fluid 'additives"? A search on additives here focuses on fuel/oil types, but given the concerns in this forum about w124 transmissions, leaks, etc., are additives more trouble than they are worth or will they bring back tranny newness?

Dexron is the proper type fluid. Nothing will bring back transmission “newness” other than a rebuild. Stay away from additives. If your transmission is leaking, an additive *may* temporarily help to seal *some* leakage, but it is a temporary & Mickey-Mouse measure at best.
