When I accelerate quickly and when it shifts down out of passing gear the rear end fishtails. It feels very unstable, like power is going to one side and quickly shifting to the other. My local mechanic is usually very good but can't pin this one down. The car has self-leveling shocks on the rear. Could they be causing the problem? Should I change to regular shocks?

Possibly subframe mounts? Not sure your car has them.
