Hey guys, I got a question for you all, I just returned from Canada and my car is getting 31-32 mpg highway. I looked at the car specs for my car and its supposed to get 26mpg city and 31 mpg highway. This is good news, but consider the following:

1) my injection pump is leaking diesel, I had it rebuilt by the MB dealer a year ago and it started leaking again a few months ago. so basically I am loosing fuel physically

2) I am only running on 4 cylinder according to a compression test a couple months ago. usually when this is the case, i thought your gas milage is supposed to decrease not increase?

So I have two negative factors but still getting the gas milage I am supposed to, I have no modifications or additives in the fuel.

The question, 1) what is going on? 2) what kind of gas milage are other 300D 2.5 turbo owners getting? This was a 3,500 mile trip driving 80 mph, with zero oil consumption on a 295,000 mile engine.

My car's at 112k mi, and burns 0 oil. I run it on Delvac One synthetic, and run synthetic tranny and diff fluids.

I drive the car a 60/40 split of in city/highway driving, and the car idles a fair amount. I consistently get 25-27 mpg combined, and I drive the car HARD (I also drive a 500E, so I'm used to getting from point A to Point B in short order). I'd think you're mileage is great, and would perhaps be a bit better if you were firing on all 5 cylinders. And unless your injection pump is really leaking violently, the amount of fuel lost is negligible I'd think.

So, let's get that puppy up to 300k!

300d 2.5 mpg

Since getting a 1991 300D 2.5 turbo earlier this year, I have averaged about 35 mpg. On a road trip, I got 38; in town, in the lower 30's. It has 100k miles --just a baby, yes?
I don't know where you got the specs --I have seen 26-40 listed (in the MB Buyer's guide).
This car is sooo much more civilized than my (beloved) '79 300SD, which, with 360k miles, still gets 27 on the highway (albeit noisily).

For what it's worth, I just did a 500 mile road trip, 90% highway, all at pretty heavy throttle with 3 people & luggage. Highway speed was around 85 MPH almost the whole way, and the A/C was on high (105 degree temps-a heat wave).

I got just over 29 MPG
