I've read other posts on the capacitor problems with the analog clocks in older MB's. I have a Euro model with no tachometer and a huge clock as my only gauge on the right hand side of the speedo. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Also I wanted to describe the method in which it died. First it didn't keep time on cold nights. When I started the car in the morning it would keep time once I reset it. It would keep perfect time as long as the car was running and gradually the temperature at which it doesn't keep time when the car is off has crept up to 70 deg F.

To the electrical engineer's out there: Does this sound like a dying capacitor or is there something else wrong?

I just hope to not have to pull the dash apart if I can't fix it with the new caps.

This is just a guess, but on my older cars with analog clocks that began to slow down and then not run at all. The reason was that they needed to be cleaned and relubricated.

Analog clocks from older cars tend to gum up as they age. This is why, as they age, and the temperature drops that the first indication is that they start slowing down, and then eventualy stop running completly.
