W210 M112 Stall & no start
My new-to-me W210 decided to stall earlier today in the middle of rush-hour traffic, and refused to fire (but did crank).
I had to push it out of the main road and onto a side-street where (naturally) it started right up first time I turned the key, and the rest of the journey was uneventful, except for the CEL that's now lit up on my dash. Is this a typical symptom of an impending CPS failure? |
sounds like it. get the codes read to verify but my money is on the crank sensor.
|
did it eventually start? how long did it take?

It's a CPO'd car and I've barely had it a month (I bought it on 26/12/07) so it's going in for a warranty repair, but they couldn't get me in until Monday - how likely is it that this will be happening again? |

My wife took the W210 to work, she reported that the CEL was no longer lit *sigh*
It's still going in to be looked at on Monday. |
The code will still be stored in the ME control unit.
I agree its most likey the crank sensor |
if you want to sort of verify it to yourself, with the hood shut, run the engine at a higher rpm for a few minutes- it will "heat-soak" the sensor and cause the engine to shut off if it is in fact the cps. It will definitly set a code if not before and illuminate the CEL.

Will it only happen if the car is stationary? Would the engine shut off if the car is moving? |
It can, but usually this is done in park.
|
Took the car in this past Monday to the dealer where they agreed with me (and everyone here) that the CPS was the most likely culprit.
They gave me a rather nice '07 C230 Sport to drive while it was being serviced, and I picked up my W210 on Tuesday, and so far no more stalling. *crosses fingers* Edit: 200th post! woooo! |
