Any less costly exhaust alternative???

Well I decided to keep the ol' 1990 300e with 250000 miles on it and now I need to replace part of the exhaust. It is the piece between the first muffler and the rear muffler. I was thinking about doing the whole exhaust until I began pricing it out. Is there any less expensive alternative? I use this car as my daily commuter and it still runs good but I just can'y see putting alot more into the exhaust. At this point I'd be in favor of putting an inexpensive import muffler and pipe on it.

Do you mean an alternative to mercedes brand exhaust? I have used a lot of ansa with good results on benzes at about half the factory parts. I sometimes also use the local muff shop and have stuff fabricated too.

The ansa will last a lot longer but be more expensive than the local shop, in my experience.

Do you have a hole in the connector pipe? Why do you need to replace it?

My exhaust snapped in a similar place and I went to a local muffler shop that put in a whole new middle setup in about 2 hours for around $120. It was generic stuff and actually went from a double resonator to a single resonator with two Y pipes to make it happen. Works well and is nice and quiet. Might try any local muffler place to see if they can do something similar.
