i got a 1998 S600 rear hydraulic issues
 

hello guys.... i just boutght this car . its got 72.000 miles.. my rear end seems to be sitting a bit low for some reason. and i have a bumpy rear suspension. i know the bumpy reason might be the air hydraulic cells , but would that cause it for the car to sit low in the back?? and im also having my light on the dash come on once in a while.. the light that has a shock level on it.. isnt the back part of this car suppose to be higher when you start it up? like the old wagons? please advise. thanks.

Did you check the fluid level?

Start by replacing the accumulators. They ought be be done as maintenance every 100k or 10 years anyway (maybe every 5 years). Taking them to failure destroys the rest of the system.

fluid level is normal ....... you guys are right it might be the accumilators..

After you replace the spheres, if the rear end still drags its either your leveling valve is incorrectly set or lost its seals. IF its incorrectly placed, readjust the positioning linkage. If that does not help then the valve has failed. Earlier valves had a rebuild kit but not the later ones.

I just replaced the accumulators on my 1994 E320 wagon and noticed that the connecting arms are attached to the torsion bar. The bar on the arm appears to have been "knocked" off level and is pointing downward possibly placing my rear end artificially low. I suspect this happened when the previous owner bottomed out the car. I discovered this by the deep scratches on the differential, mufflers, other underparts and a partially collapsed gas tank (lost about 1 gallon of capacity).
