92 sel 600... headlight out ???

Hey guys, quick question. I have a 92 sel 600, my passenger side headlight is out. HIgh beam and low beam. Is it a bulb? Or a fuse? I checked all 4 fuses that had anything to do with the headlights.

BUt none looked bad? What do I do?

THanks in advance.

Pretend you have two lamps in your living room and one won't light up when switched on. What would you do to test the dysfunctional lamp?

Next nearly insurmountable problem: "How do I check the bulb? I don't want to buy one because the problem might not be with the bulb."

haha. swap the bulbs between the lamps. if the one that was not working now works, you need a new bulb. yes!

Hhaha, sorry guys, I was a litlte drunk the night I asked that question. What I'm actually looking for is info on where/how to get to the bulb. I checked all the fuses and that doesn't seem to be the problem.

So I'm wondering how do I get to the bulb for the headlights?

Thanks.

There's an access panel above the headlamp. Two catches at the rear, depress and remove.

You'll see the headlamp "bucket" under the panel. There should be a big "door" on the back side, held in place by two wire clasps. Unsnap those, they go to the right and left to free the door.

The door may be stuck in place - just use a suitable prying device to SLOWLY coax it out.

You can then see into the inside of the bucket. There's a wire retaining clip that holds the bulb in place - remove it and pull the single bulb - I'll bet it's fried.

I'd replace both left and right as a set - you'll probably notice a big difference in brightness between L & R once you put the new bulb in.

Word of caution - DO NOT TOUCH the glass on the new bulb when handling it. Oils from your skin will dramatically shorten the life of the bulb.

How's life with a V12 in Kalifornia? I'll bet gassing that sucker at $4/gal for premium is a real stinger.

Hey Brian, thanks for responding you always come through on questions I have. I figured it was under that latch above the headlight. But I noticed those 2 metal retainers I wasnt sure if your suppose to take those off or not. But I guess thats the only way to get to it. I'm going to do this probably tomorrow or the next day.

I will probably replace both sides to. And yea gas is about $3.70 a gallon. Pretty damn expensive. But still rides so good.

Thanks again.

plus you have the 92 / 93 600 motor. more hp (408 vs. the later 389) = less mpg's. yay!

You don't remove the metal catches on the door, they pivot outwards away from the door. Just use a short screwdriver to pry them up gently and towards the outside of the headlamp (to the left & right).

Good luck.
