280C to 280E engine/tranny SWAP?
so, i think i've got a locked up M110 motor in my '77 280E (thread here), so the past couple days i've been on the lookout for possible donors.
there's a '73 280c nearby that's got a bad body, but the motor and tranny seem okay. (i'm gonna go do a compression test tomorrow). QUESTION IS: are there any differences between that '73 carbureted M110 and the '77 injected M110 that would keep them from being a pretty direct swap? I'm guessing they're both identical high compression 110.921 motors except for the head? ALSO: any chance the tranny from the 280C (722.102/722.202 ?) will swap easily into my '82 model 250 gasser (722.308)?

I can think of any reason for not doing the swap other than it would be a serious step backwards to go from CIS to Carb. The 73 motor had a vacuum pump on the front that can be removed and capped with the cap from the other motor. I can remember many instances of wishing to use a carb head on a FI motor and visa versa, but I can't remember the outcome, seems another life ago. The first issue would be whether the injectors go into the head or into the intake.
Can't say much to the trans swap. They are very different 722.1/2 and 722.3. The main issue would be length and the bolt pattern. The trans attaches to an intermediate plate and that 250 motor probably had more 722.1/2 trans installations than 722.3 so they could be available. Lotta trouble if you ask me. I would never get involved with such as I would fix what I had.

The 280C engine is the worst of the 110's from a performance standpoint, so if you used the block, you would be losing some power from a lower compression ratio.
You need to take the cam box from an injected engine because it has the mount for the injection's linkage. Since you will have to have to change the head, you may be better off with a complete injected engine. As CTH says, they are plentiful and cheap.
