Screwed up instruments
In my quest to improve the lighting in my 420, I installed LED's in the instrument panel. That was a mistake. Now my gas and temp gauges are maxed out and the oil pressure only goes to 1 bar. When I switch the high beams on, the oil pressure goes to zero as well the tach drops too. I don't know what happened. The freakin LED's made the lighting worse too. All of this for nothing. I just hope that its the actual instruments that are messed up and not the wiring in the car, or else I'm up a creek without a paddle.

There's probably just a bad ground or something....I doubt its anything major.

Probably, but man theres a lot of crap under there. I don't even know how to begin to trace it down. On some cars if you cround the connectors for the gauges they max out. I wonder if thats the problem here, something is grounded at the instrument.

Did you replace the LEDs with the normal bulbs to see if the problems went away?
Check for any burn spots on the gauge circuits...if something overheated and shorted a lead, it could cause the type of problems you describe. Check fuses too. Most likely you didn't blow any, otherwise the whole cluster would be dead. |

I put a jumper from both the fuel and temp gauges and they worked. Why would the cluster lose ground just from removing it from the car?
