I need your w124 1993 to 1995 failed engine harnesses

I know someone who may be able to duplicate and improve replacements for less than the $800 to $1500 most pay. He wants to evaluate wiring and parts. The original connectors will be reused. He does this service for old Porsches harnesses.

Post Not going to happen

I got a replaced harness from "Hanno", thanks!

My friend determined the wire and most of the connectors are not hard to source or reuse. Unfortunately his labor hours to attach the number of pins and assembling the connectors would total close to $1500. That and the molded piece that embeds a few of the cables would need to be made. He said it's a complex harness compared to those in 70's Porsche's that he rebuilds.

If the demand were high and someone invested in mass production fixtures costs would drop but no where lower than $1000. He said it wouldn't make business sense to try to compete with the sources that sell replacement harness for $800-900. Sorry guys...

Jay Leno uses a company in Ontario Canada that can replicate or fabricate from scratch ANY wiring harness you need.....not sure on the cost....but its out there. See his website for details..... (jaysgarage.com)

They will even do custom applications. Most recently he had them create one for a bus he refurbished.

True, almost anything can be made or replicated and Jay isn't one to price shop like us DIY types. My source can make the harness but not for less than $1000.

Maybe an offshore manufacturer can compete on price...

Shopping price these things are only $500 to $700 depending on the model. And volume is pretty much played out - most cars have already been done and they're getting scraped at a pretty decent pace these days.

These are dealer items. My last E420 harness, 1244401906, cost $452, now up to about $500 street / around $600 list.

I sure haven't seen one for sale much under $900 when I was looking around. I don't need one right now, but had I found one for $600 I would surely buy one and lay it away for a rainy day 124 cheap purchase opportunity.

As indicated prices vary depending on model. Six cylinders are higher than eights. But the most common six harness - 1244405632 - lists for $850 at the link below, and street price should be around $700. The subsequent and less common 1244402933 is a bit higher but street price should still be under $800. When a dealer charges $1500, and there have been such stories, it's because they're punishing someone for not being a service customer and trying to recoup their prior goodwill harness work for good service customers. But no one need pay that much.

I don't know if its just me or not, but that catalog search does not give me an option to chose "E" class to even do a search for a wiring harness.

For reference, nearly all OEM wiring harnesses for the Big Three are made in Mexico because of the labor-intensive process. It would only make sense to outsource replacement wiring to Mexico if you want to compete against wiring made in Germany.
