My kompactor - (c230) mileage

Acquired a 2000 kompressor c230 with 49k miles on it this past weekend. Drives good. Mileage is a concern however. Highway mileage worked out to be right at 25mpg on both fill ups. The searches I've done on this forum indicate that should be the around town mileage instead. Most are claiming 28 to 30mpg highway.

Are there some simple considerations to look at (besides my right foot) like filters, PVC or spark/electrical?

Has the car ever been serviced??
Many times people don't follow the recommended TIME part of the maintenance schedule.

BY now that car should have had a spark plug change & new filters.

Also think about servicing the trans & differential.

ON that car the PCV valve is an important item to replace!!

Where is this located on the kompressor models, please? Would it be the same as an EGR valve?

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. Just posting an update on mileage sitch. I replaced air filter, had an oil change and put in new spark plugs. Mileage around town is right at 20 to 21 mpg.Yes, I do on occaision have a leadfoot but I don't drive it like I stole every day. Any other suggestions on mileage improvements on this car? Gas prices bite!

Your mileage around town really sucks.

In my E430, a V8, I'm getting about 19 in town, 23-24 on the highway, and a combined average of about 21.5 mpg.

I average 23-24 mpg with mostly freeway driving, but on a trip to Las Vegas last year I got 26 mpg with 100% freeway driving.

Not bad for a V8 with 300 hp.

I have had a 1999 C230 Kompressor for 140,000 miles. 25mpg is all you are going to get. Combined is usually around 22-23mpg.

It's astonishing, I have a friend that has a CLK430 (same engine) and he gets 27-28 MPG at a steady 60 MPH cruise. It gets about the same mileage as a W123 240D with almost 4X the available power.....

My C230 Kompressor gets 29-31 MPG on the highway, a heavy right foot with the associated supercharger activities can really take a toll on mileage. I suspect people that are getting lower mileage are using the right foot a bit more than I am.

I'm not sure what my freeway fuel economy would be if I cruised at 60 mph.

I'm sure it would be better than the 26 mpg I got on the Las Vegas trip. My average speeds were between 85-90 mph, with ocassional jaunts about 100.

The problem is that when you are in the middle of the desert, you lose your sense of speed, and when I'd look at the speedometer, my speeds were frequently inching above 90-ish. It's just the speed the car likes to run at.

That's not a problem . I wonder what kind of mileage I'd get at 60mph...

My C230K gets about 16-17 mpg in the city, but that's 3 miles a trip between home and work with a fair amount of lights and stop signs. The car barely has time to warm up before I'm there. 20 mpg probably isn't too bad, especially with the updated EPA numbers (supposedly more realistic) being 19 and 26. Also, if you have a heavy right foot, you can really eat into the mpg, even though it's just a 2.3L 4-banger.

Pure highway mpg on my last long road trip was about 30 mpg at around 90-ish.

That is about as good as most people are able to get with pure in-town driving with a 230k in a W202 chassis.
