BG44 vs Ethos
just looking at two different products. BG products are legendary and the quality speaks for itself. however, a newcomer has come onto the fuel additive scene and claims that you will receive a 19% increase in fuel mileage or up to .70 cents per gallon savings. I was wondering if anyone has had experienceed a fuel mileage increase using eitherthe BG44 product or the Ethos product.

I don't know anything about BG44, but Ethos FR is a scam.
|
have you used Ethos in your car? if you did, did you record the fuel mileage?
|
Do a google search on this one. It is a typical MLM scam. The only positive results you will find are from distributors.
Such products have no place in any car that I own. |
will do, however I am trying to locate an end user who has personally used the product and documented any possible fuel mileage gains. again, I'm looking for feedback from an end user (not a distributor) who has used Ethos over a 90 day period of time. one tank of gas won't tell the entire story.....

If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I did a quick google search on the product and it seems to be closely tied-in with too many MLM schemes to be truly credible IMHO. Try it and let us know how it works if you like, but this sounds like snake oil to me.

Try Gumout Regane.
It's an AWESOME product and pretty much an equal to BG44k IMO except cheaper. |
Everybody I know who knows anything about cars swears by BG products. I think they really are different than the off the shelf stuff you get at auto parts stores.

from the pros I've talked with, BG is the cat's behind. spoke with a transmission expert this AM..he has a BG transmission flusher that costs $4,000 and said it is quite the tranny flusher. while I realize that BG may not be the cheapest product on the market, neither is a mercedes benz engine. I work very hard to try and use the best products in the engine.......one of the major items I am attempting to correct is the air filtration. WIX makes a paper air filter of which I am not entirely happy with. I am planning on jury rigging a new cold air intake filter via a retrofitted 420SEL single outlet air cleaner. that should help keep more dirt, sand and junk out of the motor.
A recent conversation with a racing mechanic turned me onto the evils of dirt, sand and any other particles that pass through the air cleaner into the engine. sand and grit is the enemy of any engine and needs to be filtered via the air intakes any possible way you can stop it. you might lose a few horsepower in the process but beats the premature mechanical destruction of the engine via internal "sand blasting". in my opinion, a paper filter isn't good enough...dirt flies right on by..... |

that really changed my thinking on air filters. I am currently using a WIX paper filter and from the photos it looks like that is good choice. I've never heard of Baldwin filters but that looked to be second only to the Mazda OEM filter. I am still thinking with the addition of a cold air intake filter, I should be able to stop more dirt from entering the engine due to their being TWO filters...cold air intake filter and the standard air cleaner mount filter.
|
called the Baldwin air filter dealer, they don't stock pre 1992 mercedes air filters.....too bad. the Hengst air filter is available on this web site from Phil...probably the best choice. back to BG44 vs Ethos....seems I read somewhere that the BG44 would also increase your fuel mileage. any first hand accounts concerning BG44 and fuel mileage increases??

I have plenty of experience with BG44K. Its not a magic mileage increaser, but it will restore mileage lost because of a dirty intake system. Its a very powerful cleaner. My standard method is to use a bottle of Techron once a month and then a can of BG44K just before an oil change. I've done this since the early '90s on the advice of a mechanic friend of mine and have excellent results.
YMMV, of course. :) |

I use BG44 to keep my intake clean. I never thought it was supposed to enhance my fuel economy. I've never heard it promoted as such. I don't know about the other stuff that was mentioned.
