A couple small electrical issues...

My 300SEL doesn't really have any major electrical problems...just a couple that are kinda annoying. I have noticed that some of the switches/buttons on the center console don't light up at night like they should...I was wondering if there is a bulb or something that can be replaced inside of the switches? The switches work fine.

Also, the passenger vanity mirror doesn't light up when opened, the driver's side works properly. The power passenger mirror also doesn't work, and it looks as if the two passenger window switched on the center console have "sunken" into the console...O_O they still work fine, but I'd like to get it fixed.

And something unrelated that I noticed the other day...when I pulled into my garage, and shut down the engine, all of the doors locked. Was really weird, has never done it before and hasn't done it since...

Any ideas? i tried searching for threads related to these problems, but I couldn't find much... :\

All central switches get light from a single source (a bulg that distruibutes light through a series of reflective cables that hook up on the back of each switch. The main bulb that provides the light for the central panel might be too old or burnt out and should be replaced. Panel bulbs age considerably and provide much less light than when new.

Your sun visor vanity mirror gets its power from the central attachtment at the ceiling (the one you unhook to move the sun visor to the side. Notice there is a couple o metal plaques that make contact to transfer electricity to the bulbs on the mirror. This plates, because of constant lowering of the sun visor, tend to warp and hence to not pass electricity correctly.

About the doors locking themselves after turning off the engine, I would recommend a licensed exorcist.

Well, most of my switches light up...but there are a couple that aren't..I suppose it is possible that a "reflective cable" or two has come loose? How do I remove the center wood panels on the dash? Like the panels around the Climate control unit, and window switches?

And I will check the mirror contacts out again...I looked them over once and they looked fine...but maybe i'll try some contact cleaner.

LOL...I'll phone up my local Catholic church... ;)

Thanks!!!!! :D

I have the same problem on my 400E. None of my window switches and shifter light up in the center console. Where is the main light bulb?
