Crack in Radiator??
 

Greetings again.
I tried to remove the auxillary fan with no luck. Kind of hard on a stone driveway with a flash light. That will be a project for tomorrow in the garage. On a different note, I noticed a crack in the radiator. Just below where the upper hose connects. It's in the plastic. Does this mean I need a new rad?? Is there any way to fix?? I know where to get one but the opportunity is limited so I would appreciate any responses. Thanks again as always.

pronto! rads are cheap anyway. well, cheaper
than a cracked head, if your car overheats.

I would have thought a cracked radiator shows up quite obviously what with the coolant leaking out.

Here's What I know...
 

The "fix" depends upon your geographical area. Where I live in California, the radiator shops don't repair the plastic tanks. Call some of your local shops and ask them if they do, and if they use Accutech epoxy to do the job. There is a company called "North East Plastic Tanks" in Farmingdale, NY that sells replacements. 800-300-7539, or email: NEPlasticTanks@aol.com They may be able to recommend someone in your area they sell to.

Then, you should remove the upper hose, and inspect the hose connection to the radiator to assure that it hasn't broken. This is common on the plastic tank radiators, and usually requires a replacement, but again, if you can get it repaired, it's cheaper.

If you replace it, make sure the new one has the brass insert sleeve in the upper hose connection "neck". Some new radiators are made with these to prevent future breakage, but not all are.

PartsShop/FastLane will have your radiator, either a Behr, or a Nissens. Check it out...

I have found That West System epoxys will stick to and repair all plastics that I have tried them on . Used them to repair a cracked black plastic holding tank on a motorhome when all else failed .you can find West System products on the web.......

William, I picked up some of that "West Systems" epoxy on my way home last night. I repaired it with 4 layers of cloth and the epoxy, so tonight I will try it. Thanks for the info. I called the company and they were very helpful and gave me all the procedures. I will let everyone know how I made out.:)
