190E Transmission Swap

Need to confirm the exchangeability (is that a word?) of the following:

Defective Trans: 124.270.12.02.722.409.03.XXXXXX

New Trans: 124.270.92.01.722.409.03.XXXXXX

I appreceiate that the 722.409 numbers are the critical ones but am curious about the numbers that proceed it and are different. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The 124 270 92 01 is the earlier trans up to number 059062. They both fit various cars including 190e 2.6 and 260e. Probably some slight valve body differences.

I need some help with a transmission swap please. The old one is 722 409 02 828511 and the "new" used one is 722 409 0 3348851. My question is that there are some external hydraulic controls on the drivers side of the earlier (older) transmission that are not on the new one. I don't have a digital camera but it runs from the cover at the drivers side rear through a solenoid valve body at the engine/tranny mating joint (drivers side) and then back to a line about 1/2 way from the front to the shifter mechanism through a banjo bolt into the tranny. Also, the new (later model) has some type of vacuum control on the bowden cable. Any guidance/help would be appreciated in identifying these differences. If I install the transmission what signal do I need to run to the assembly at the bowden cable. It looks like a vacuum connection.

and the answer was?

I'm in the midst of my own transmission swap, where I have late vs early transmission change too. My particular trouble is a change to the tailshaft bolt positions. I'm in the midst of swapping them.

Thx -CTH

I don't understand what you are referring to here.

I am going to go ahead and install the "newer" transmission without connecting the vacuum signal to the device at the end of the bowden cable. I need to check to insure that they are the same length before I install it. My plans are to do it first thing in the morning.

The device at the end of the bowden cable adjusts the shift point based on engine temp or some such as that. I am not going to connect anything to it and just be glad the transmission will go into high gear. I did not find out what the device that controls the hydraulic signal on the drivers side of the old transmission does.

I should finish it before lunch tomorrow. A lift and tranny jack make the job pretty straight forward. I have already replaced the transmission front seal.

Transmission swap came out good. Shifts and downshifts exactly like it is supposed to.
