Removing OVP on a W124
 
I've been chasing a hard cold start problem for a few weeks.
So far, no solution in sight.
I've read that the OVP relay could be the culprit.
I just can't remove the d***n thing.
No amount of pulling/pushing.
It is held in place by two metal tabs which seem to be molded in some sort of plastic retainer.

My next step is to use a 3ft. crowbar.....unless you have the solution.

It has a screw going thru the mounting tab. Take the screw out.

Isn't that the one with the "knob" on top? Turn it to the left.

A model year would help us answer. Many changes on 124 long production run.
Pre '88 did not have the screw tabs, '88 on did..
Always give a chassis # if you want the correct info.

Oops! I'm thinking of the Klima Relay.

Please disregard my earlier response.

Arthur is correct and the later OVPs were held in place by two 10MM bolts.

Soory for not havin given too much detail.
The car is a 1989 260E

No, there is no screw.
The OVP seems to be the original, (One 10amp fuse on top)

There's a bracket across the back of the OVP with a screw hole on each end. The bolts are in the back, on the sides.

The bolts are easy to drop, too!

I GOT IT.!

There are no screws anywhere.
The screws at the bottom of the bracket only hold the bracket to the car, but does not free up the OVP.

Here's the trick.

Lift only the rear portion of the OVP, leaving the front part snug with the bracket. The rear tab comes out of the bracket
Slide the OVP backwards, it will free up the front mounting tab from the front bracket.
Lift the front of the OVP while pulling forward, this will free up the rear tab.

The engineers who designed this system must have spent 3 months on the drawing table.

I just replaced my OVP, and it didn't quite come out as I expected, although I didn't really know what to expect. Thought to add some pics to this post of how mine came out.

Mine was only bolted on one side (by design), even though there were 2 tabs with bolt holes.

Even though I took the battery out for the job, I probably didn't have to but it sure did give a lot of room to work.

I had the same problem. While it can be caused by several different defects I was finally able to diagnosis mine as bad fuel computer.
