No Brakes

Changed the rear Caliper on 500E to 95 SL600.
Added new rotors all around.
Added G-Ridge S/S Brakelines.
Purged each caliper.
Pedal travel / feel is lowsy. Absolutely no grab at rear.
I got the calipers off a 95SL600 at a dismantler.
They were on the car in a covered area.pads and all hardware still attached.
What am I missing?
Might the calipers be sticking, or could the MC be going / gone as a result of all the bleeding etc..
Anybody already did this. I'm going to swap back the OE rear lines and rebleed till I'm blue in the facre

Albert, the master cylinder has a front and rear chamber. Make sure the rear chamber has brake fluid in it. It's best to pressure bleed the brake calipers instead of pumping the brakes manually which can damage the master cylinder. Start by using a turkey baster to remove old brake fluid from the master cylinder then refilling with new brake fluid. Then be sure to maintain the fluid level so as not to introduce air into the brake system.

I have no experience swapping brake components from one car to a DIFFERENT car (different accentuated to point out different design not just different color). But I can tell you that hydraulics are specifically designed by surface area affected and if the calipers in the excahnge have different size pistons you could be working with a design issue.

Thanks gents.
I'm gonna try the slow gravity method and rebleed the lines.
Swapping these rear calipers is a fairly simple and common upgrade for the 500E/E500. Its documented by several owner/users here. I think OmegaBenz has swapped calipers/rotors from every M-benz known to man except the mighty SLR...at least not as of this writing but knowing him,he might just be working on finding some now!:D

Uhhh, no comment! Some sort of big MB brakes in the works, also working on 996 brakes, probably will finish that this summer.

Hey, this is funny, I was actually thinking about you today. I was wondering if those AMG AERO I 17x8ET 28s cleared your 400E front calipers. I'd be delighted to know that they do, Please provide me a picture.

Honestly, I think stainless steel lines can be a problem (unless pressure bled).

Id highly recommend first bleeding the system with stock lines and new calipers. The stainless lines have a very small diameter and bubbles can easily form on a swap. That way you can really bleed the caliper to make sure you have no bubbles there.

Then if you really want SS lines, you should swap them back on, then let the gravity bleed them, and then hook the male end to the caliper and bleed it again.

I really think you should get a motive brake bleeder.

They have the new european model with the aluminum swivel adapter and it works really nice! I have this one, and also the one that does not swivel.

Sometimes the 600SL brakes feel too grabby in the rear depending on what you have on in the front (300mm or 320mm?). So be aware of that so you don't end up sideways into a guard rail. This problem can be corrected, but one step at a time. Feel free to post this on www.500Ecstasy.com/forums as well.
