lkchris 03-24-2008 01:42 PM

M119 - winner of 24 hrs of LeMans.

deanyel 03-24-2008 10:28 PM

Wow - three 119 motors in a field of 55 in the 1989 LeMans, and they finish 1st, 2nd and 5th.

No offense but try at least typing a readable sentence. What is "IDK"? AFAIK its not a word.

Spelling properly would be a nice start; then, composing proper sentences would be a fine follow-up.

I fear for the future of literacy; this, together with the fact that kids don't read books anymore supports my fear....

Now, that aside, the M119 is probably the best engine MB ever designed, and one of the most long-lived. Have no fear.

Sorry I was in internet talk mode. As for the "idk" it stands for "I don't know" For the other one "AFAIK" I never said that.

But this is a forum, not a spelling bee, I can type up a paper easy, no offense was taken, but this seems to be a bit unfair, classic typo along with internet abbreviations typically means un-readable sentence.

I guess I'll try to not use abbreviations anymore, and i just downloaded the spell check for the site, so it will be better for now on.

E_420 03-25-2008 01:47 PM

You all are old timers.

Richard Wooldridge 03-25-2008 02:11 PM

Dear E420,
We may be Old-Timers, over-the-hillers, but most all of us are young thinkers, and some of us have experience the newer generation will never see... At least I HOPE they never see some of the things we have seen!

Peace,

deanyel 03-25-2008 03:43 PM

Writing incoherently isn't just ineffective, it's also rude. It's says "my time is valuable, yours isn't, you take the time to figure out this gibberish." Most people don't.

Hatterasguy 03-25-2008 07:24 PM

Your probably older than me.

Larry Delor 03-25-2008 10:43 PM

Good spelling implies orientation to details.
In which case I want to add the following minor detail. Not only is it an M119....but it is an M119.975 (just like the car isn't just a W124...but a W124.034)

In the end, youth and vigor will be out-done by old age and treachery. :D

Wait, who are you talking to? Me? well if me, then, how old are you?

Its completely not that. Its not that I took time to know/figgure out what the "gibberish" is, its that, its just part of my generation. When you are txting on a phone, who wants to take the time to fully type out "laugh out loud" when you can just type "lol". like I said, I was in internet mode, and wasnt thinkin about spelling stuff out. i had multiple AIM (not a abbreviation its an instant messaging system) window up, facebook, myspace, and a txting on my phone, so, yeah sorry i'll fix it, didnt think it would cause so much controversy.

E_420 03-26-2008 01:50 PM

But people im only 16....

Hatterasguy 03-26-2008 01:55 PM

Pete Geither 03-26-2008 02:01 PM

Everything is fine,,, it's just that Hat got everyone stirred up with the "Proper Grammer" thread, and everyone is into hyper spelling bee mode right now. :D

E_S 03-26-2008 02:49 PM

No offense, but I wonder how it can be easier to intentionally write "wrong" when writing on things like IM or SMS? Abbreviations (like LOL, OMG) is ok, but if you know the correct spelling of non-abbreviated words, why bother writing them intentionally wrong?

Spelling words intentionaly wrong means you either don't know how too spell it or its shorter then the actual word spelled right. meaning shorter word = less to type and or write. meaning the person is lazy or its become habbit to talk/type in abbrevations. So I dont know.

Well then, my famous quot the seriously pisses people off is, GET OVER IT! I could care less if poor grammer makes you mad or offends you, man up and SHUT UP. Thats what I would say if I wanted to be a jerk. And im like just a hair away from that.

E_420 03-29-2008 03:03 PM

Or I could just say f-you, you dont like it then get off.

Hatterasguy 03-29-2008 03:08 PM

Considering that their are two moderators posting in this thread, that wouldn't be a good way to say that.:);)

E_420 03-29-2008 03:13 PM

who are the moderators? Like I know what a moderator is, but like whats there user-name?

Hatterasguy 03-29-2008 03:35 PM

Pete and I.

You don't know what a moderator is? Come on you must be more internet savy than me!:D

E_420 03-29-2008 05:09 PM

So if i said it that way, what would be the consequences?

jeffreyli86 03-29-2008 06:15 PM

LOL... I think the problem is that "IDK" isn't a proper abbreviation for anything. It's just text-talk. If you must, you better use abbreviations that people are likely to know (e.g. LOL) or proper abbreviations (e.g. FYI, AFAIK). Otherwise it may be rude and unreadable to some, if not most. I'm 22 if you are interested. You just have to learn to use different "languages" in different situations. You can say "F-you" to anyone on tExt but when you are asking for help, this is not, in my opinion, the right attitude.

Let's get back on topic. It's a M119.

Cheers

Maybe the forum rules should be reviewed! It looks to me like some type of warning to E_420 is warranted based on the above exchange.

For what it's worth, IMHO (hehe) "idk" is no more or less proper than "AFAIK". I don't use "idk" myself, but I do use "AFAIK"; I'm not sure why, probably it's because I'm old.

Excuse me, I gotta go now as I'm worried there may be some kids on my lawn. :D

All meant in good fun,

deanyel 03-30-2008 02:37 PM

Scariest of all is "whats there user-name".

E_420 03-30-2008 05:38 PM

no no no no no no, yes i kno WHAT a moderator is, i was just wondering who it was.

E_420 03-30-2008 05:45 PM

Hey, guys, if I have been a jerk, at all, sorry. I havent had the best few days, and I dont know, I was starting to get offended (not anymore) and went into deffense mode. So anywho, I would never say anything to purposely offended anyone. So yes, sorry again.

I do not need to be warned, i didnt say anything. I was stating, that if i wanted to be that way, I could and would.

retroguybilly 04-01-2008 08:55 AM

"Maybe the forum rules should be reviewed! It looks to me like some type of warning to E_420 is warranted based on the above exchange."

No, that would be very petty. He's not hurting anybody, and I'm sure the moderators have better things to do. Just ignore it and cut the guy some slack.

E_420, if you want people to take you seriously, you need to learn the rules of grammar and how to write. Don't be a rebel without a cause.
