300e Problem installing kickdown cable.
1989 300E W124 278K km's
Removed the old kickdown cable (control pressure cable) and can't get the new one back in place. I'm attempting to do this with the transmission still in the car. Do I have to lower the transmission to get this cable back into place or can it be done with transmission fitted and attached. I removed the old cable by squeezing the plastic tab and rotating the fitting anti clockwise. Tried a reverse of this procedure to install the new cable, but it just refuses to go down deep enough into the hole to enable the plastic tab to lock into position to hold it. There really is not too much room to get your hands on this fitting. What is the secret to this...? Anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it. Appreciate any input. benzdriver737 |

Yes, it's very frustrating. I forgot to reinstall the cable on my tranny before I put it back in, and I fought it awhile, but managed to get it back in place.
It took about 3 beers' time to do it, however. The one trick I used was to pull the cable all the way out of the sheath, then tape it at the top (other end) to keep it from retracting. That gives you some wiggle room. If all else fails, I seem to remember you can remove the pan and reach up from there to work it. DG |
