If you do a search for that condition you will see that has always been a problem on the 722.3 series transmissions.

I have the same trans and had same symptoms on my 92 SEL, step one made no difference, step two much more costly fixed it. I went the MB rebuilt route, $3k + labor. I agonized the descision, but went for it. You will have to make the call, its the front clutch from what I gather. it is 9 hrs labor to R&R no idea of tear down. A unknown used could work, a good rebuilder, AAMCO or such I dont know.
