serpentine belt squeak

95 e300d 195,000
Replaced the belt with a continental belt from Fastlane. Within a couple of weeks, a squeak developed. The chirp coincided with the yellow lettering on the belt. I removed it and spun the alternator, water pump, etc. and couldn't seem to get a squeak. I put the old belt back on and the squeak was gone. Examining the new belt that I just removed, I noticed some dust on the ribbed side sort of like brake dust. With what could someone clean a serpantine belt? I was thinking about dish soap and a tooth brush. Anyone else have this problem?

I had the same wailing belt. Also continental. Belt develops squeak after a few weeks.

When the engine is running, pour water on the belt; if th squeak goes away, replace it.

I replaced mine after 4 weeks of having the belt. Total waste of money.

Now a Made in Japan belt is inside. No squeaks yet.

Same problem with 95 E320

Same belt and after a couple of weeks it started squeaking/ticking. Watching the belt come over the top you could see where it had about a 3-4" section that was out of line with the rest of the belt.

I almost felt bad putting a $25 Goodyear Gatorback on the car but it is quiet. The $45 Continental from Fastlane was not. Maybe just one bad batch came through.

I was so certain that the noise could not be the Conti belt that I replaced the water pump...it was going to need one anyway. Very disappointing when it started ticking and chirping when it was put back together.

I replaced two conti belts and both chirped.

Put a a goodyear gatorback and noise gone.
Let me also add that I had the same issue on my SL500 with 48k miles. I replaced the Conti belt twice and squeeked and chirped really bad. Replaced 10k miles ago with Goodyear Gatorback, No noise at all.
Now I have Gatorbacks on all three Benzes. The Conti belts really suck.

Don't think much of their tires or their belts.
