W124 Rear suspension issue
My 90 300e was developed a strange noise from the rear driver's side wheels area. It sounds like a metal squeak. I pushed down the rear end. I heard the noise again. Every subtle bump and there is this noise. At first I thought it was the shock, but I'm wondering if one of the links bushings has gone. I noticed when doing a right hand turn, and the drivers side loads up, it tends to turn in much quicker, as if there was 4 wheel steering, it's not very noticable, but definitely different than the feeling turning left.
If it is one of the rear links, is that a DIY, I'd be comfortable doing the shocks myself, but curious about doing all 4 of the links. Is there a write up anywhere on how to do this. Thanks Last edited by Addbhp; 03-27-2008 at 08:57 PM. Reason: spelling error

Okay, after more research and reading various other treads, it looks like it's the rear links. Are these fairly easy to replace, and where is the best place (cheapest) to order from?
Any DIY pages that walk through this procedure? Or special tools required?

I'm fairly sure my car has the same issue. I have a '92 400E, but I think it's the same setup as your 300E. I've had this issue for a while, but just haven't got around to fixing it. Two weeks ago I had the car on jack stands while replacing the fuel filter and decided to take a look at it, nothing really looked too bad, but the bushings around the sway bar looked like they could be an issue. So, today I ordered those bushings at the dealer, and should receive them next week, once I install them I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Well I finally got around to replaceing those sway bar bushings and still have the squeak. I really don't feel like replacing any of the suspension linkage bushings since they're a bit harder to do, so instead I just sprayed all of the bushings with some spray lube and so far it's done the trick. Unfortunitly it's not the best fix, but it'll work for the rest of this cars life.
