Any tips on doing rear brakes on '92 4Matic 124 wagon?

Okay, so I've replaced the front rotors and pads on my 1995 e320 wagon in the past by referring to this great link...

http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W124BrakePads

However, I was wondering if the same rules applied to the rear brakes of a 1992 4matic wagon? The pads are almost completely worn (light just started to come on). I'm assuming there must be sensors but I didn't notice one on the left side (and ideas)?

Also, do I need to release the parking brake (I have blocks behind front wheels)?

Things looked a little different back there and I could use some insight here (things to look out for etc).

Thanks!
Michael

Michael, wear sensors are not on the rear brake pads of all 124 cars ... normally on ones with ASR. No need to release the parking brake unless you intend to remove the rotors. Replacing the rear brake pads is as straightforward as replacing the front brake pads. Typically a set of rear brake pads will last two or three times as long as a set of front brake pads.

someone just did a great pictorial last week...

you need to use a punch to push pins through first... that will release a clip... then you have to get a 17mm wrench and take off the two bolts that hold the caliper on..

pull the caliper off.... take pads out.... take cap off of master cylinder...

use C-clamp to compress pistons... use brake squeal paste on back of pads..put pads in...

use a bit of locktite on bolts ... put caliper back on...bolt.... put clip in place... push pins back in place.. put cap back on master cylinder.

the pictorial shows all those steps...

300TE rear pads

If replacing only the rear pads on a W124 300TE, one does not need to remove the caliper. Use a long pry tool or caliper tool to press the pistons back in, one a a time. I did mine on my 300TE a few weeks ago, and changed the brake fluid.

If replacing the rear rotors as well, then yes caliper comes off, but no the parking brake can not be engaged for the obvious reason.

Any idea where the tutorial is?
I am doing a quick search to make sure I am prepared to replace rear pads and rotors on the W124.

I can document the process if there isnt a tutorial.

I guess since the e brake is in the hat, the caliper pistons just push in rather than screw in. (Awesome).

no other warnings or suggestions?

Thanks.

Replacing brake pads

Here's "Checking & Replacing Brake Pads" from the FSM.

A good time to flush the brake fluid while you have the wheels off.
