Additional Horn
We have a W210 E250. I would like to fit an additional Air Horn on my car.
Which is the right place to mount the horn ? |

I don't know the specifics of your car, but I mounted four extra horns in my W126. I drilled holes into the blank sheetmetal in an unused space in my engine compartment, and mounted them using the brackets that came with 'em. As long as the horn is somewhat close the the front of your engine compartment, and aimed towards the grill, it should blast pretty well.
The real trick will be wiring your new horn, expecially if you want to wire so it'll work with with the stock horn (i.e. push horn thing on steering wheel, both horns sound). I'm not sure how that'd work. Wouldn't be as hard though if you wired it to a separate switch under the dash or elswhere (that's what I did). Hope this helps. |

Depending on the size & number of horns you want to mount, you can mount them behind the bumper...either in the corner hidden behind the lower mud covers or in the middle in front of the cooler (if there is no additional oil cooler).
For the older models mercedes has HORN switches to swap from horn 1 to horn 2 and back. My 1990 300SL had 4 horns (with switch) from factory. Your W210 has different shaped switches though and I don't know if mercedes has HORN switches in the new style. greetingz,

My Dad's 71 280 SE has the dash knob to switch the horn sounds! I used to play with it when I was young!
I have air horns on my Bug and I will tell you this from experience... There will be a slight delay between hitting the horn and actually producing a sound, due to having the air compressor spool up first. When mounting, aim the horns slightly downward, so that moisture can be expelled during heavy rains. You want as little obstruction as possible in front of the horns or the most loudness...therefore, behind the radiator, for example, is not a good place. On my Bug, they are mounted on the outside of the driver's side inner fenderwell. The surrounding fender provides the acoustics necessary to amplify the horns prior to the sound exiting the vehicle.
