Whoa! Steve suggested a trickle charger ! Not jump starting it.
|
lolol ok oops...wrong page...i guess i'll go pick one up then? Does any trickle charger work for my mercedes? I was thinking about heading over to my local Kragen Auto Parts

<<Lift up that blue outlined cover, and you will find several holes. One of these will give you + and another one -
>> Don't go NEAR those plugs with a battery charger..they are ECU Diagnostic Module ports and a 15/16 v changer can fry the modules.!!!!!!!! The X4/10 I want you to find is just behind the ground wires in your picture, and then straight DOWN ..get a flashlite. You want the BIG RED 8MM wire ...that is the feed wire from the BATTERY pos terminal..then use one of those ground wires for your chargers NEG.. Man...o.. man.... |

lots of close calls today lol...soo looking at these pictures the pos terminal would be somewhere around or below the red areas? It seems I would have to remove the two wises connected to the strut towers to get underneath it all...

Woah (again) !
Saved you from the frying pan, and tried to throw you into the fire! I wasn't thinking, and I apologize. Immediately after posting this, and some other drivel of mine, I noticed the post above. I think the lighter idea is good....just remember that you have to have the ignition on, for the lighter to be energized. |

I see it - it's behind the black box, behind the wiring harness plug. I'm looking at a 94 but it's bound to be similar. Just look for the big red wire.

Ok when you say the black box do you mean the computer housing then behind it I do see a red wire. It's connected to a black cylinder which is then connected to a metal plate. Is that where I can connect the POS wire? I think I can make it to school tomorrow : )

AJ, there should be instructions for jump starting your car in the Owner's Manual. On models with the battery in the trunk or under the rear seat there should be a positive post/terminal under the hood for your dead battery situation.

<<I think the lighter idea is good....just remember that you have to have the ignition on, for the lighter to be energized.
>> Don't do that either.. Turning the key ON while charging the system puts charger voltage into EVERY module in the Engine mangement systems. You do not want ANYTHING ON while you are charging the battery, specially a DEAD one.. Which is why we want the charger to go to an UNSWITCHED/DIRECT circuit #30 connection..which is the Large RED wire directly from the battery POS terminal. These terminal are what are referred to as "Allways Hot". You do not charge a battery with the ignition key ON ..EVER !! As I said before , look around for the Terminal block with the large RED wire on it...that is the circuit #30 terminal block X4/10 and should have other smaller distribution wires going to it. It is shown in your schematic and it is said to be located in the right compartment behind the shock tower. Some guys understand electricity basics and some just don't...if one thinks "Band" when we mention AC/DC on this Forum, then that is a good indicator that they might not want to be fooling around with any electrical problems...:) |

That cylinder is the Filter Capacitor C2 for Noise supression of the Battery/Alternator Harness..... ..but, if you follow that red wire from that capacitor, it goes right to the 4/10 terminal block you are looking for. I think you have to move the comp. housing assemby aside and it will be right under that. Then look for the Large RED wire at that terminal block...[ Terminal#1-circuit 30...it is probably marked right into the plastic of the term block.] |

lol yea sadly I'm the kind of guy who would have Highway to Hell come to mind when I hear that term....well followed that red wire to a box and popped of the the top. There are 4 terminals and it seems that red wire is connected to the second one (see picture) There actually two wires connected to that terminal though, a red and black one. Is this where I plug in my jumper cables? It seems it would be a bit difficult to clamp the terminal since it's kinda small and the others are so close.
but I'm gonna go check out target right now because they supposedly have the cigarette jumpers (car to car) and if not pep boys has something similar where it connects a box to the cigarette lighter which helps to jump the car. |
That is it.. and for the 4th time..you do not jumper there , you hook up a home type charger there to get your bat back to charge.
See the BIG FAT Black one ??? That is direct from battery and charger pos goes there and changer neg goes to a good ground. Then let it sit overnight on the charger...... You can go get the cigar one, [ which you seem to be set on] , so I guess you do not head my warnings...you only use them if you have a cigar Lighter that is alway live and does not need the key to be ON for lighter..go reread the post. Up to you.........I'm done with this one. |
