As others have mentioned in previous threads you have to have wheels/tires with the correct offset to fill up the fenders. Mine obviously do.

Albert,
Sounds like a nice conversion...any pictures?
Do you plan to update the rear fenders as well?

Glen,
I dont believe its worth the trouble. Not enough "Bang" for the buck. It wasn'/isn't my intention to fabricate a e500, but I did/do like the wider front end and since I had the to replace mine due to accident, I said what the hell. I've taken it as far as it can go. No engine mods, but will probably add the chipo at some point.
Its a 10yrs old car and even at 165K still as flawless as the day I bought it. You should see peoples jaw drop when I tell them that its " just an Old Car".

Thanks...I was just curious because someday I want to get another 300E with 5-speed manual tranny and convert the body to full E500 spec.

Erm. Are you all missing the point of the E500. It's the motor, DUH!

MBenzNL 08-08-2001 04:44 PM

Tony, the 500E is not only about the engine...I like the wider design and the sight of a 500E front running up from behind to woooossshhhh along on the German autobahn; it is the sight that I like the most.
For me it is the wider chassis with the different lights and over complete interior...everything bigger as 6 cylinders is way too fast to hold on to my beloved driving license.

On the German site www.mobile.de somebody is trying to sell a 300CE24 with 500E exterior...unfortunately there are no pics added, but for me the 300-24 engine would be power enough for the 500 fenders.

greetingz,

Why is anyone wants to put out $5K on a $7K car?

It is just a matter of PERSONAL taste and what you want to do with your OWN money.

For example, my neighbor FACTORY ORDERED a C180 with all the AMG styling add-ons including the C32 AMG badge. He feels quite proud every time he passes by with his 1.8-liter four-cylinder faux C32. And if you thought an M.B. dealer would not do this, think again! For money, they'll do anything!

...nets the owner(s) a sense of "added value" in terms of aesthetic appeal & uniqueness, pride of ownership/ enjoyment, & added $$$ market value.

...surely we can't live a day without the visual splendor of aftermarket bolt-ons attached to anything that moves: wheels, tires, exhaust, tint, suspension, decals, bumper stickers, stereos & entertainment equipment, interior and exterior lighting, body kits, grills, bells, whistles, etc.

good thing that "variety is the spice of life"- and - "to each his own"
