2003 C240 Headlights

First…I’m not a mechanic or anything so I may not be using the correct terminology so please forgive me.

I was in the local parts store yesterday and I decided to look at new headlights. When I looked through the parts catalog I noticed they had entries for two types of headlights…standard and HID.

How can I tell which kind I have? Also, if I currently have standard and want to upgrade to HID…is there an easy-to-install conversion kit on the market? What do I need to consider if I decide to go with HID i.e. does HID place additional drain on the battery that I will need to compensate for?

I was about to post a thread asking who may have installed an HID kit in their C Class. There are a few kits avaialble in eBay. It appears that the one claiming having the best kit is MTEC. I beliee these kits draw only 35w. They come with a ballast which helps intensify the light. Search eBay for "Mercedes C Class hid kits". The most expensive I have seen is $300.

They come as low as $69 but I think the cheaper ones do not have the proper adapters and connectors for an MB. My brother put one in his Honda and is very satisfied with it. It was a direct fit.

When ordering these, the 2 important items to know is the type of bulb i.e. 9003, 9004, 9007, etc and the bulb temperature (or intensity) you want. The popular choice is 5000 or 6000 for a white light. Too low will give a yellowish tint while too high will be bluish.
