Correct Temperature Sensors for w124
 

Its for an 1988 300TE

My mechanic stated I was getting an error code for Coolant Temperature Sensor
and Altitude Temperature Sensor

I am assuming the coolant temp sensor is the water temperature sensor right?
If so, which one is the correct sensor?

Any sites have the Altitude sensor? Fastlane doesn't seem to have any.

There were several production changes for sensors. You need the engine serial # and then just go see where you fit on the parts eng # designation next to the part you posted..
We can't tell you which one w/o that info..............they tell you right there

I just filled my 300TE up and 100% city driving net me 12.5mpg :( Thats horrible isn't it? The car wasn't idling and I was driving gently. I suspect if I were driving a little harder I would have been at like 11!!!

Do you have any thoughts that my Thermostat could be at fault? I have no engine temperature problems but I heard somewhere this effects MPG if its bad.
Any thoughts?

The temp sensor in question is an input for controling a/f mixtures. If it is off/broken/out of calibration, the fuel management thinks the car is not up to temp and runs the a/f on the rich side...so, that is why your mechanic said you need a sensor..and why you get crap milage
The temp that you see on the guage is a different sensor altogether and only reports coolant temp back to that gauge. If that gauge is reading correctly, you do not have a thermostat problem...

You can see that your car had CIS sensor changes , so, as previously posted, you have to have the engine # to find which sensor your engines system is designed to use...

I can't seem to find the engine serial # anywhere....Where is it located? I did searches online and all I found was "left side of engine block" but I looked as good as I could and found no numbers.

^Those are the two engine's listed on Fastlane.

Those numbers from FastLane are production cut-off and start #'s.
They are not your EXACT engine number . b/c they are serial numbers .
If your engines serial is BEFORE that#, that is the part they want you to use ..If it is After, then that is the part you use. Your engine is a 103.983, with a serial # following that. It is the serial# they want and it is the serial # that determines where your car came in the production run and therefore which production changed sensor that engine requires.

That is what the " - " signifies. That means "up to and including serial xxxxx" or "including and after serial xxxxx"

And the 10 or 12 means the car is a Manual trans or an Auto trans..so you use that to narrow yours down.
10 is man , 12 is auto.

Rather than listing the FastLane #s, why don't you just list YOUR serial # and someone here will be happy to tell you which sensor fits YOUR chassis
by simply using the FastLane info................

Hopefully this will fix my MPG, and maybe (although I doubt) the misfire. Will report back in a few days with the results.

If you still find this confusing, then you may just want to call Phil @ FastLane and give him the chassis/yr/engine # and he will surely send you the correct part.
