How to remove MAF "tube"

The colukn that holds the Mass Air Flow Sensor - how is it removed?

I'm looking to replace the ETA (Electronic Throttle Actuator). Seems the MAF is required to be removed first.

There seems to be a clamp on the part - is that true? Do I remove the clamp?

This shows the part I'm looking to remove.

This shows how to fix the ETA, but not how to remove it.

Your help is appreciated.

Summary:
How do I remove the MAF sensor, so I may remove the ETA?

I will clean it, as mentioned in a thread - "Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner" found at AutoZone and Pep Boys.

Oops - v12uberalles is complete

I'm bad - yes - s600@v12uberalles.com does describe how to remove the MAF.

Quote:

Loosen the band clamp on the rubber intake runner where it mates with the MAF using a Phillips screwdriver. Gently twist the MAF to break the seal between it and the rubber intake runner. CAREFULLY pull the MAF out of the rubber intake runner. Do not damage the screens on either end of the MAF, they are delicate. Bag and seal the MAF in a zip-loc bag to prevent contamination.

Air Filter box and MAF removed.

Once you have the MAF off, take a picture, so you can remember which way the spring and linkage goes.

Got MAF off - how is ETA removed?

The ETA bolts have been removed, but the ETA just doesn't want to get past th e intake manifold. I have the new replacement - but ...

Should I remove the air pollution tube, disconnected the top part of the tube - but.

Wait Wait - I just remembered I didn't remove the springs.

Is that my error? I'm in Missouri and the car is in New Jersey.

Thanks

There's only one (1) spring . . . Yes, you need to remove it and make sure it doesn't 'slip' as mine did. PITA to get it re-tensioned.

Info for your car ('93 500SEL --??) is contained in Menu#24. . .

You need to work the ETA around after removing the rubber tube which will probably break . . . recommend you replace it while you doing this job. It will come out . . barely!

you will need to buy new rubber connection between maf and electronic throttle and replace all the fume hoses from rear of right valve cover down to throttle[3 or 4 pcs] ask me how i know.

Buying parts

U have purchased the rubber connector for between the MAF and the ETA.

I have purchased the gasket for between the Intake Manifold and the ETA.

I will but the new spring - to get tension right and the hose to the valve cover (air pollution thing).

Back to the dealer for the spring and the tubing - or does some one have the part number that I may buy it from Fast Lane.

Thanks.
