I am the original owner of a 1991 W126 with 196K miles on it.
I'm getting a single clunk noise on low speed turns that seems to be coming from the rear suspension. Shop says it is likely a lower control arm issue and that it is a big deal to fix (meaning expensive).
Car was rear ended bad enough to break one of the bumper shock absorbers about 15-20K miles ago. It was repaired perfectly by all appearances but the rear suspension was never inspected for damage. Could this have a bearing on the issue if it is a control arm problem? If so can it likely be pursued thru the isurance company (Geico).
This is a Florida car and has never been exposed to road salt so I wouldn't think it's a failure due to rust.
Shop did mention that they may be able to replace the bushings rather than the whole arm (s).
How expensive could this repair get? It is an honest shop and they have done work for me for several years. Can anyone offer any information on where this issue may be headed?
Thank you
