Unhappy Ideal temp for 190E

Greetings,
Can anyone tell me what the ideal temp for an '88 190E should be? It was running around 85 or so in the spring. Now it is consistently around 95-100. I have been having cooling problems like an auxillary fan that isn't working as well. Would this cause this kind of jump? As soon as I turn on the a/c the temp skyrockets. What would cause that?

Kyle

190's use an electric fan, therefore the temps are higher when the weather is warmer. They allow the engine to get hot then turn on the fans for cooling.

Thanks for the response Benzmac,
So, if the fan would kick on, that should solve the problem?
What about the A/C? That fan will take the temp down that much?

Mine runs 90-95C 100+ in hot weather. Fan comes
on occassionally. Have you checked or replaced the fan relay??? The new ones come with a fuse on top.

Here's something to try at your own risk.
If it is the same as on the 85, you can short the magnetic fan clutch switch with a wire so the engine fan stays on all the time.
I am not sure if it can be called a recommended procedure, as I am not a mechanic, but I did that on mine and now it runs nice and cool around 80-90 degrees even in the hottest weather, and it gets hot here in HI. To my knowledge, the electric fans should kick on at 100 degrees C, if not there's probably something wrong.
Good Luck!

Once (recently) when I suspected cooling problems, I disconnected the A/C fan sensor on my 300E near the thermostat to get the fans to kick on high constantly. It DID cool the car somewhat, but I felt that I would eventually burn out the fans if I kept that up every day.

So now with the Texas temps hitting 100F and above, I certainly do not panic when the gauge gets close to 100C when in town or in slow gridlock. It actually creeps even higher if I make a stop and then return to the car a few minutes later (to about 105 C).

This is all normal, especially with the A/C running.
