Retrofit Installation of Optional Rear Sunshade on a 126

I bought all the parts I needed to do a retro install of the optional rear sunshade on my 126.
But after preassembling everything outside of the car, we could not determine how the white plastic toothed runner holds on to the top clip of the sun shade which pulls it up on the guide to the headliner (left pic below).
After jumping the sunshade motor with electric, the white plastic toothed runner spit out a well mangled small rubber grommet.
Is the grommet required to permit the white platic toothed runner to hold fast onto the sunshade to pull it up on the guide?
If so, I saw none in the EPC.
Or is there something else that I don''t readily see to permit the white platic toothed runner to hold fast onto the sunshade to pull it up on the guide?
Thanks.

As far as I recall, it goes inside the guide and is actually not attached to the shade but just rests against it, with the pressure of the spring in the shade doing the retraction when the toothed "wire" is being pulled back by the motor.

I completely rebuilt my system about six years ago - so some of the details are foggy. It's a two-person job feeding the wire in - someone in the front has to push the up/down button.
