W210 Shifter Can't Shift into 4,3,2,1
 

I have a 1999 E430 Sport. The car can shift into P,R,N,and D. The transmission is shifting smoothly through all gears. However, I just noticed that the shifter (Shift Knob) can't shift into the 4. Hence, I can't shift into the rest of the gear. What is the problem? Is it the transmission?

The transmission linkage doesn't move to any position below "D". That is ALL in the shifter.

Thanks for your reply. When you said that it is ALL in the shifter, does it mean it is an easy diy repair. I know how to remove the center console.
