Can't give throttle? Motor mounts??!
Hello I’ve been contemplating buying another 300D, there is a 83 that was rear ended and selling for quite cheap (<$1k) but it has a problem that I’d like to know what is causing it before I get to serious about buying it. Almost everything on this car is perfect (other than the obvious damage), but after it was rear ended the throttle can’t rev the motor. Apparently the guy had a mechanic look at it, and while he didn’t find anything definite it was suspected a broken motor mount due to the impact was causing it. Does this sound feasible? I just can’t see how the motor could move so much. Hopefully he can send me a picture of this region of the motor…. It’d be phenomenal if I could fix it and drive it home as is (damage isn’t that bad, both rear quarters are slightly bent and the bumper is missing) versus having to tow it all the way home.
Thanks in advance. Jeff M. BOOSTnBENZ 1baddsm

I'd look for a damaged (pinched) fuel line. Wreck could have caused it to "pinch" off which would act just like a dirty fuel filter - not being able to rev.

Can you rev it at the injection pump?

I've wondered the same thing but I don't think this guy trully knows his way around underneath the hood, I suppose I can ask though. I'm buying this car from a distance, otherwise it'd probably be quite easy for me to inspect it and find. Here is his exact words...

The closest the linkage will ever get to a carb is when you are parked in front of a partshouse. I would be REAL concerned about the person looking at it and offering advice. Probably something simple but not seeing the damage myself I could not really say.

I was thinking the same thing while I was reading it. Oh well he was tryingm most people don't try to answer anyone's questions when their car is up for sale. They simply say, I don't know.... ~jm

Is this the mystery part he speaks of? Still, I find it hard to believe that this impact could jar this lose, but I guess anything is possible.
