How do you know if your car is a california car?
I have an 89 300se. My check engine light came on under heavy accleration. Has not turned off since. How do I check for codes? Or can I even? I do not know if my car is a california car, is there anyway of checking?
Thank you. |
Not exactly sure about your car but look up by your battery. If you are standing on the passenger side of the car and your battery is on your left there will be a small black box (about the size of a deck of cards) pull the cover off of that and see if you have a button/Led light.

They lean to the left .

Plug it into the VIN decoder.
http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng Most will have a specific option code for Kalifornia. |
Check in the passenger seat for a bleached blonde!

this is applicable to the 107's and quite possibly applicable to your 126. .
the emisions control tag on the door is suppose to be: black for federal versions and yellow for kali versions, it should have the wording of something to the effect of "this vehicle meets all applicable standards in effect for the (1989) model year" as well as some numbers or something if your looking at the sticker I am referencing. I read this in the 107 FSM sometime ago. . . |
Your car should be like mine if it really is a CA car. There is a small black box on the firewall near the battery. It has a small red LED, with a small button next to it. Hold down the button for 2-4 seconds, then count how many times the LED blinks. That is your code.
To turn the CEL off, just hold down the button for about 8 seconds. That sometimes doesn't work for me, and I have to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, then the CEL will turn off. |
Actually there is a decal on the radiator brace that says it is a California emissions car, but running the VIN thru the Russian MB Club site is the easiest way to tell. It'll either say California or US equipped.

Ok so my car is a california car. So that is cool. Now I just need to actually get the code from it. Thanks Johnathan for the help on reading my code.
I will post back shortly with the code. |
Well, mine is a TEXAS car.
I can tell 'cause those Good-Old-Boys cut a big hole in the roof for my Stetson hat. Oh, that's a sunroof??? My mistake. Sorry Ya'll. DG (Please, no "W" abuse) |
Ok I finally got around to actually helping my car( would have done it earlier but ran into computer issues). Ok so the led blinked twice. So what does that mean? Oh and the light is off again. And I did some more hard acceleration to try to get the light on, but it wouldnt. any ideas?
