77 300D intermittent wipers and AC freon type

I've had my 77 300D for three years and the intermittent wipers never worked. The low and high work and also when activating the washer pump, but no intermittent. I bought a supposedly good used impulse relay P/N 123-821-00-63 from Rhinetrade and still no intermittent wiping capability. Any suggestions from the digest?

Also, does my AC use R-12 freon. I'm sure it must but want to make sure. Thanks
STEVE

I don't know about your wipers... I just fixed mine and I just had to re-solder the connections on the relay. But as for your AC... R-134a didn't come out until around 1992 or so... so your car was designed for R-12... however it may have been converted. The only way to tell is to check the fittings for charging. They are different sizes for R-134a. Any competent A/C shop can tell you which you have. If you need to convert it, go to your local parts store and buy the $35 kit. It has everything you need. And yes, I did check with an A/C person... these kits are all you need to do the job.

Good luck!

resoldering impulse relay connector

Which part of the relay did you have to resolder, the pins on the relay or the connector sockets at the end of the wire harness? Thanks

re-soldering...

On the circut board where the input/output pins are soldered. Mine had worked themselvs loose. If you've already had the relay apart, see if you can rock the circut card while holding the base (with the pins) steady. If you can, try re-soldering them. I think they used a pretty heavy gauge of solder, so you'll need an iron or pencil that gets pretty hot. I used one from work with a temperature control. I found it worked best set to 800 degrees. If you're not sure about yours, go to radio shack and ask. They should be able to help you figure the wattage you need. Any luck with your A/C?

Again... Good Luck!

A/C Conversion Kits

Apparently the R134a conversion kits will work, but before installing one, suggest you go to the following automotive air conditioning bulletin board and read what they have to say about them:

Good luck!
