Glass Mat Battery Usage

They cost more than the standard lead acid batteries but they don't leak acid. Any reason why the glass mat units can't be used in older cars?

Unless your car is inverted, you should not leak acid. The most common cause of acid being pushed out of a vent tube is overcharging. Overcharging may not cause the AGM battery to spill acid, but it will greatly shorten its life.

I use them in all of mine.

If you're looking at an AGM battery, and don't want to get hosed on the price, you might check out Deka brand batteries. They seem to sell to the truck companies and equipment manufacturers more than the automotive market, but they will sell to you if you go to them.

I bought one for my Z car, at $95 for the battery, instead of $160 or so for the Optima branded AGM.

Happy motoring!
