AC compressor knocking
My compressor has made a knocking noise for as long as I can remember but it is now alittle worse. About a month ago I topped it off with a can of R134a and now the air is alot cooler. Ever since the knocking has been alittle louder, and the air is still very cold. Does it need some oil or something? Thanks

sounds like your compressor may be going. Add one of those oil charge cans for r134 they sell at the parts store see if it helps. what type of compressor do you have york or R4? cubelike or round?

I have the york compressor, what makes the knocking sound?

When refrigerant leaks the oil leaks out with it. Someone already suggested adding oil, I wil second that. Danny |
How do I add oil? I see cans of PAG oil, but how do I get it in the system?

Get oil into the compressor ASAP. Also check and make sure that the circuit is not over-fused. If that compressor gets close to letting go, you want the fuse to blow before it seizes up!
Don't ask me how I know this. :-( |
