Very Good.

You may want to take a peek in there ..many guys change out the brushes...may even just be gunked up..WD40 and some compressed air often works. And lube the bearings while you are at it [ ATF]. The shaft should be very easy to spin by hand.........if it drags at all, that could also be part of your problem.
You have a handle on it now..

Just wanted to give a final report to wrap up this thread. After intermittent performance, I replaced the blower motor and squirrel cage assembly and the system runs like a champ once again.

My sincere thanks to Arthur for his spot on diagnosis. Without his suggestions I most likley would have changed out the blower regulator, tore apart the dash board and still had problems.

Even though I have all the discs and manuals for my 1990 300te, without this forum I could not continue to maintain this car myself.

Thanks again to Arthur and to all of you out there who take the time to help others.

Mark

1988 300E blower motor out

Is the info in this thread applicable as far as locations to my year 300E as far as this fuse by the strut tower? Is that over by the batter by chance?

My motor just stopped working the other day, nothing runs on it. It had squealed in the past some times intermittently, but put it on high and it would stop, then go back to normal and no problem. The fan has cut in and out very sporadically, seemingly only when my wife drove the car, but now it is just dead.

Do you have to take apart the whole dash to get to the blower?

Auxiliary fuse box (F15) is located in the same place according to my sources, next to the drivers side strut tower.

To get to the blower, here is the link to the DIY article that I used:

Any idea why the blower on my '89 stopped working on high? It seems to only run at one speed whether placed in automatic or high.

If you follow all the procedures outlined in this thread in order you shoud be able to pinpoint the problem. To summarize:

-Check integrity of both fuses
-Check 3 wire connector behind the brake boster

If those are both OK, then your fuses and dash switches are fine and you have isolated the problem to either the blower motor or the blower regulator.

-Check the blower motor (good idea to check the integrity of the wires leading to it as well)
-Check the blower regulator

low fan speed only

My blower fan is running low only. (92 300d 2.5 ) Fan motor was replaced 2 years ago. It was not genuine MB but an Ebay aftermarket. Original was very noisy. Everything fine. Last year, no fan, replaced strip fuse, all was fine. Now only low speed fan at any PB unit setting. Looks like I need to do bypass regulator test, then if it runs full speed, then test voltage at yellow wire. Shouldn't be the motor already, but the reg is original at 16 yrs old...

Nice work around Rick.

Well, my fuse is fine. Where is the regulator located?
