William,
What's the problem with your vac system? I almost replaced the pump on my father's '82 SD last week. But MB Doc had some good words of advice and I found the system to be leaking and the pump to be OK. Maybe yours could be a similar problem, that pump is too expensive. SW

Sw,
I have checked my pump with one on another car. My pump works only one way-I forget if it's lock or unlock-- Price for a new pump from disc. auto store-$200. Dealer price+$280. Anyone have a cheaper price? Bill Lewallen'Lexington,Ky. Home of fast horses. No more smart asses... |

Bill, That Part Number Is Out Of Date...
The new Mercedes # is 000 800 03 48, and you will also need the new cover, # 126 805 03 90. The old one will not fit the new pump. My local dealer lists the pump for $394, & the cover for $22.
FastLane has the goods... Bosch Part # O4000-27217 Bosch Vacuum Supply Pump List - $376.00 FastLane - $198.59 # O4002-87088 Vacuum Pump Cover List - $17.00 FastLane - $15.81

Bill,
If your pump produces vacuum and the locks function one way your problem is almost certainly not with your pump. The pump only produces vacuum on demand and doesn't do anything different to lock or unlock. Look to the valves, actuators, and tubing. I'm betting you have a torn diaphragm in one actuator. Bob D. |

A good friend of mine lives in Winchester (about 12 mi East of Lexington). He has a small "by appointment only" MB shop out there. I bought my '70 280SE from him and am about to go down there again and pick up a '70 280SL and an '87 300TD. I love horse country. Whenever I'm down there, we always make two stops, one to the Liquor Barn for some good German beer and also at the MB dealership (James), we then usually jump in our cars (the last time he was driving his '83 500SL Euro and I was in my '77 450SL) and take a fast winding tour through horse country! It's beautiful!

I would agree that if the motor runs at all in the pump, then the problem lies elsewhere in the system. I had the motor stop owrking on my 190E 2.3-16 and was about to order a new one when the parts supply salesman suggested I run a wire from the battery to the unit and see if it worked. The pump worked. They very rarely fail, and the rest of the vacuum operated clap trap by comparison is kind of flimsy. Mine turned out to be a bad connection (electrical) under the rug on the driver's side just below the clutch. Took some doing to find it but the fix was free.
Finding the problem in the vacuum system can be a pain in the rear, but you can dope it out. Good Luck. Jim

The problem of the vacuum door lock system on my 1983 300SD has been solved and fixed. My pump was bad and replaced with a used pump and matching case. No vac. leaks. Cost: $100.
This guy in Falmouth, Ky. has over 600 salvageable MBs. If you need parts(new/used), you might want to contact him: EUROPEAN CONNECTIONS 313 Main St. Falmouth,Ky. 41040 1-800-395-8636 To those that wanted the place for turbo parts, that address is; M&D Distributors 6931 Navagation Blvd. P.O.
