Changing Snows Over; Jacked up Rear and POP!!!

Something snapped in the front, drivers side. I was raising the drivers rear and had the passengers front tire chocked. There was a definite metal snap sound. Doesn't appear to be a strut - I don't have access to a lift again for a while. Drives fine. Slight knocking sound as I turn and go over bumps. Suggestions on what to check next, and how? Thanks all!

Look at the very bottom of the spings..the last 3-4" of coil always snaps off on those..........specially in Northern climates.
............Benzs has a zink tab that you install on the new springs that remedies the conditon.

It could also be a coil snapping pas the edge of the seat and just making a noise. I would look it over really good and if it drives fine and looks fine I would not worry about it.

Much obliged AD! How does the zinc tab work? Just wrap it and tighten?

[Sorry - I might have mis-read. You mean on the springs from teh factory that replaced the ones on the 124?]

The zinc tab is just a foot for the end of the spring when you install NEW ones to prevent new rust from breaking the end of the spring off like the old one did...that's all.
It does not repair the old broken spring..it is a rust preventive measure for the replacement.
If you find the coils lower ends broken or cracked , you must replace the coil spring, regardless if you decide to use the zink tabs or not.
