drive shaft 300e vs 260e
I have a 260e parts car (87) and would like to transfer the drive shaft into the 300e (86). Apparently they are different but any ideas what they are?? Can the differences be overcome. Thanks for any thoughts.

Length & bolt circle diameter of flex discs are different.
Quite a bit of work at both ends(trans & diff flanges) & possibly needing to slightly shorten the front section.

Thanks for this - I was hoping they would keep that part the same but...

The 260E has the 190E 2.6 trans, might account for the different length and bolt circle.

Why would you need to replace the drive shaft? All the wear parts are replacable.

Prop shaft
Hi Warren - my U-joint has worn, and as I have the 260 drive shaft already thought I would just bolt it in. I don't think replacing just the universal joint is possible? (I could be wrong) - although I did read somewhere they can be rebuilt. In anycase visiting the local wrecking yards will likely be my first plan and hope to find a good one. Otherwise buying a rebuilt somewhere (ideas?) and sending mine back for the core. Thanks.
Jim - thanks for this. I did notice that while hunting for hanger bearings and flex discs the part numbers are not the same (sadly) 260 vs 300. I did think about putting the 260 trans. into the 300 as mine has a leak but once mine is out I would probably just fix it instead. Mike |
