CIS injection fuel pump questions
300sel -
From what I've gathered on the search here, when the pump is very loud it's on its way out. Is there a way to test pump pressure at the CIS distributor before I go purchase a new pump? Thanks! |
Anyone? :(

yes, with a fuel pressure guage. You can also test it at the pump outlet.

What pressure would I be looking for?

If its running it probably has the right pressure. CIS does not like variable pressure. The whole system is based on hydraulic control and a fixed pressure is the heart of it.
The pumps make noise when the filter is restrcicted and when the source is restricted also. |
Source restricted?
The filter was replaced within the past few thousand miles. |
Check the electrical current draw. This will increase as the pump ages. It also increases as the filter gets clogged.
|
The filter is not the source, it is after the pump. The source is the tank and the screen and baffle system inside.
|
Yeah, could the screen in the tank cause the pump to be loud?
The car has around 265,000 miles on it hence my reason to question the pump. My 300SE's had the pump replaced and the 560 has around 140k I think only. |
